Melissa and Chaz's engagement story.. My version

Melissa's engagement story according to her mom..

Friday afternoon Ray got a phone call from Chaz. He called  asking for our blessing. Poor Chaz.. Ray surprisingly gave him a little bit of run around. haha  But ended up giving him our blessing! Chaz then said something to the effect of, I'm going to try to get an airplane ticket for her Sunday to fly to Seattle so I can propose to her on top of the Space Needle. Umm.. how exciting.. but it was Friday afternoon and he hadn't even got her a plane ticket.. Those of you who know Melissa and Chaz know that these two crazy kids like to fly by the seat of their pants!

Ray and I were just getting ready to leave to Ocean Shores to take Keagan to the beach dance. Of course we talked about it all the way down.

Saturday we had stayed the night in Ocean Shores and Chaz called Ray with Melissa's airplane flight info and an email. We got all the plans worked out and then the airplane time was changed. More texts and phone calls trying to arrange people to be there to surprise her.

We got all our plans in order and were so excited to see her the next day! On our way home from Ocean Shores, we talked to Melissa on the phone for almost an hour. It was so fun to have a surprise!! She had no idea!!  She was planning on going to a missionary homecoming in the morning.

I may or may not get this portion of the story right.. but here is my version. ha! Saturday evening Chaz asked Melissa to go on a sunrise hike and breakfast with I think his brother. They went to Salt Lake that night to stay with his family so they could get up super early for this hike. When Melissa got up she was dressed in her sweats to get ready to go on this hike. Chaz told her to go change into her church clothes and check her email. He had sent the ticket confirmation to her email. He told her that he was surprising her to go visit her family. He told her he would send the return flight to her later. She told me she was so excited, but too tired to show it. I got a text from her at 4:08 a.m. saying, "WHAT THE HECK how did you keep this a secret?!  I'll see you in a few hours!!!"

She was scheduled to land at 10 a.m. and Chaz was scheduled to land on the flight right after. We were scheduled to meet him and his family at 1:30 at the space needle for him to propose. We bought tickets online for 1:30.

While we were in the cell phone lot we got a message from Chaz. "I missed my flight" Next flight is landing in Seattle at 3. They are seeing what they can do.

So we are scrambling to text everyone that is planning on coming to let them know, but to get all this done before she calls us, which she did as we are texting.

Our plan and what we did was pick her up and then go to some random Sacrament meeting at 11:00. Traffic was crazy at the curbside where we picked her up, so we were like, hurry, just get into the car. Then we went to a 11:00 church meeting. She was funny, what, we're not going home?!!  Us, No, We decided since we don't have you for very long and you love Seattle, we thought we would got to church and then go visit Seattle. We brought a picnic lunch.

Here are her and Keagan hugging for the first time right after we all get out of the car. I will probably and hopefully will always say this, I LOVE HOW MUCH THEY LOVE EACH OTHER!!

We went to Sacrament meeting. But we were bad and texting trying to re-arrange all our things for the day.. Changing our Space Needle tickets and letting friends know.

We at first thought about going to Alki beach. We went there and there was no parking and it was crowded! It was sunny and beautiful out, almost 80 degrees. We drove all around Alki Beach. It was gorgeous out! No pictures.. plenty from the rest of the day!

We ended up going to Gas Works Park in Seattle. It was so nice out! We had a picnic lunch and just relaxed and visited with her. This time was so precious to us! And of course lots of silliness.

A copy of Keagan's snapchat..

Because of Chaz missing his flight, we had a few hours with her. We took advantage of it and really enjoyed our time together. Melissa even got a short nap in!

The beautiful views!
You can see the Space Needle in the distance off to the right.

We all knew (except Melissa! haha) that things were changing soon, so we took advantage of it and all wanted to take pictures with her. She couldn't ever be serious!

These are my favorite of Ray and Melissa. I couldn't choose my favorite!

And Melissa and mom! Love her!!

After this, we said to Melissa, Let's go walk around the Space Needle since you love that area. (Haha) So we went with Ray and watching the clock.. and messages from Chaz, just landed. Messages from friends.. There is a ton of traffic..  I'm sure Melissa thought why are we on our phones so much!

After parking and everything we got to the Space Needle around 3:30 and our new tickets were for 4:00. So, conveniently we sat on some stairs in the shade and people watched.

When Chaz gave us the ok, that he would be there in time, we headed up to the top of the Space Needle. We told Melissa since she was here, it was a one time thing that we would take her up.

pictures of us waiting in line.. more sass

We went out on the deck for a while. It was warm, but so beautiful!!

Then we came in to just relax, cool off  (and wait)

This is just moments before "it" happens!

So funny.. We were just sitting there and I see Chaz in the distance followed by his family. I'm trying to make eye contact with him without alerting Melissa. I'm sitting across from her, so her back is to where he is coming from. He walks right past us.. I do a little ahem..(however you spell that..) and he doesn't notice, but his brother does and nudges him. Melissa then sees his family, but not him and jumps down and is like, WHAT... and then runs out and sees him and gives him a big hug.

Here is the video of Chaz proposing to Melissa. It's hard to hear and turns sideways... but soo sweet!!!

Afterwards..
You know when your kids are babies and you take tons of pictures of every expression.. well that's how I felt. Every picture to me has some little different expression so sorrynotsorry about the picture overload. My more favorites I made bigger... but really I love them all.

Here she is giving us sass, saying something like you guys knew!!!

Then outside for some pictures and there aren't as many now because my battery died and Ray was in charge of taking pictures...

Then we went downstairs and outside. Melissa's friends Carly and Elysia from dance team were out there waiting for her. Also Elysia's mom, Simone and our friend Sue (who my kids affectionately call Auntie Sue) were there.

Chaz is the youngest of 4 siblings. His 2 brothers Kyle and Cody, his sister Whitney and her husband, and his mom came with him. Chaz and his brother (cody?) flew in. His mom and the rest drove all night to be there! They got there at 7 in the morning! Chaz has an aunt in the area that they went to go see and got a couple hours of sleep. His dad wasn't able to come because he doesn't travel well. It was a whirlwind trip for them. After we went outside and got some pictures, they were on their way home, driving! They got home around 6 or 7 Monday morning!!Whitney and her husband got to fly home.

Oh.. and remember how Chaz missed his flight?! We heard from him and his brother the reason he missed his flight was because he forgot the ring and had to go back and get it. haha

Keagan and Chaz

Let's see if I can get this straight as to who is who...
Chaz's brother Cody, Mike (Whitney's husband), Whitney (Chaz's sister), Chaz and Melissa, Kyle, and Keagan in front.

Keagan wanting a picture of him and Melissa.

And then they drove home..

More pictures to come and more details as to when, where, etc.
